Tourism in Thailand 2025: Statistics, Trends and Growth Forecasts

Since the end of 2024, inbound tourism in Thailand has shown a steady recovery and growth. According to the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, about 32.4 million foreign tourists visited the country in 2024, which is 15% more than a year earlier, but the figure has not yet reached the record level of 2019 (39.9 million people). In the first four months of 2025, Thailand received 12.09 million travelers, which is only 0.26% less than in the same period last year. Despite a slight decrease in traffic, total revenue from tourism increased by 5.24% to 576.85 billion baht, which indicates an increase in the average check and higher spending on site.

The growth of premium tourism

The luxury tourism segment deserves special attention. According to Grand View Research, in 2024, Thailand's premium tourism market reached $11.1 billion, and by 2030 it is expected to grow to $19.3 billion at an average annual rate of 9.7%. This trend is due to the growing number of wealthy travelers from Europe, the US and the Middle East who choose Thailand not only for their beach holidays, but also for high-class villas, branded residences, yachting and world-class wellness programs.

State strategy and forecasts for 2025

The Thai government continues to actively develop the tourism industry. As part of the national program Amazing Thailand Grand Tourism & Sports Year 2025 ambitious goals have been set:

  • - attract 36 to 39 million foreign tourists;
  • - increase total tourism revenue to 3.4 trillion baht;
  • - expand the sports and health tourism segment, including international tournaments and wellness resorts;
  • - stimulate the development of premium infrastructure — from luxury hotels to exclusive tours.

New growth drivers

An additional incentive for the industry is provided by changes in visa policy planned for 2025: the simplification of obtaining long-term visas, the expansion of programs for digital nomads and investors, and the introduction of electronic visas. At the same time, investments in transport infrastructure are continuing: the modernization of Bangkok and Phuket airports, the launch of new direct flights from Europe and India.

Final forecast

Experts predict that by the end of 2025, Thailand will be able to approach pre-COVID indicators, and the premium tourism segment will grow by another 8-10%. Taking into account long-term plans and the steady interest of international travelers, the kingdom is strengthening its position as one of the leading tourist destinations focused on a high level of service and unique experiences.
